Yann Castanier was born in Sète in 1986. He lives in Paris.

He is a graduate of Sciences Po Lyon and the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques.

Photographer since 2008, he has been published in nearly forty titles in the national press: Polka Magazine, Liberation, Le Monde, La Vie, L’Obs, Les Jours, etc …

He covers political and social news for Liberation (Yellow Vests, Notre Dame de Paris, World Cup, National Rally recently).

In addition, he leads long-term projects. In 2019, he published in Polka Magazine and Liberation « The voices of Sainte-Anne ». For a year, he followed people with mental illness, from their hospitalization to their reintegration.

Previously, he published, already in Polka Magazine and Liberation, a ten-year work on Alzheimer’s disease where he followed his grandparents. He carried out a two-year report in the squats of Sans Domicile Fixe de Sète and Montpellier. And finally, he documented for 3 years several extreme right groups of young people. These subjects were published by Liberation, Neon and Obs.

He also carries out assignments for companies: events, conferences, portraits, corporate.

He has been represented by the Hans Lucas studio since 2015.

Exhibitions

Yann exhibited his work at the FOAM Museum in Amsterdam, in Forum des Halles in Paris, at the Maison de l’Europe in Nantes, during the Boutographies festival, at the Center National d’Art Contemporain in Grenoble, during the off of the ImageSingulières festival in Sète, at the « Portraits of Humanity » festival in Martigues, at the Center Culturel des Amandiers (Paris XXème) and at the A La Barak gallery in Montpellier.
